“i love you - it’ll pass” : between my skyrim characters because errmm.. why not.

it’s interchangeable really, but dagr is the first one to feel anything romantic towards revus and he really struggles with it. the way he explains it.. revus thinks it’s just mixing up platonic and romantic, so he tells dagr he will get over it. eventually, revus stops following him around and wants to return to the college because revus has collected all of the information he needed before.. but dagr keeps making excuses for him to stay. it kind of bitters their relationship. but dagr pushes revus away anyway and denies everything, probably ruining the majority of their relationship until he comes to apologize later. much later.

[dagr is male, he/him and gay. revus is male, he/him and is queer/questioning]

How smelly do you think mercenaries and travelers or laborers get in Tamriel?

wispstalk Answer:

Don’t get me wrong I love making jokes about medieval serfs that wash their ass once a year but historical hygiene practices aren’t as bad as popularly believed. Granted, the average person is going to smell more “human” than we’re accustomed to…

Fixed campsites are not just an in-game convenience. Over time camps become established along roadways and, like settlements, usually near a water source. At the very least there will be a spring to refill canteens and do a quick bird bath before hitting the road again.

Workers at labor settlements (mines, logging operations etc) and frequent travelers will carry a compact kit. Here’s Tanis’s:

  1. Wooden comb. Porous materials like wood, bone, ivory, or horn remove excess dirt and oils from the hair without the hassle of water washing
  2. Troll fat and beeswax salve with redwort and dragon’s tongue extracts for cracked skin, cuts and stings, and some minor sun protection
  3. Cedarwood perfume oil for deodorizing and keeping bugs away. Also antimicrobial though it’s not described in those terms
  4. Iron nail file and pick
  5. Cloth made from rough and scratchy plant fibers, which exfoliate and remove dirt from the skin
  6. Chewing stick for cleaning teeth. Often taken from olive or orange trees in Cyrodiil and tossed when the end becomes too frayed
  7. Small pouch of fennel seeds for freshening breath (also a good digestive in the mornings)
  8. A little cake of shaving soap stored in a burlap wrap. Shaving is done with his game knife but I ran out of drawing room

i lovr this stuff every day things are so beautiful to mw i loooove them

Being isolated for decades does explain his oddness, now, doesn’t it?

a few doodles of a witcher sona because he used to be a mage, but i find myself liking the idea of a witcher better. no school yet.. but he sure is silly. gets into a lot of fights, though they’re not usually his.

What do you think about Hermaeus Mora apparently being Mephala's sister? What do you think interactions between them would be like? Mora and Azura are also on pretty good terms so it would be interesting to see what they'd be like together

bitchwhoreofastorm Answer:

In the earliest days of time existing, two spirits meet on the edge of the grey maybe, one empty-handed, one not.

It is the empty-handed one who speaks first. “You gathered these quickly, sister.”

“Yes,” says his interceptor, “Auri-el keeps all his secrets in one place, so easy to steal.” And she lays down her burdens– spindles wound thick and heavy with secrets– at her brother’s feet.

They are old spirits, far too old to bother with concrete shapes among themselves, but one of them is susceptible to fashion, so for her edification they sometimes deign to refer to themselves with such trendy inventions as ‘names’ and 'genders’. The secret-bearer, the fashionable one, goes by Mephala; the empty-handed spirit is Hermaeus Mora, perhaps choosing such an unwieldy title as a subtle rebellion against being given any moniker at all.

remodeling characters means setting aside my favorite traits and keeping them for another character because i cram too much lore into one little guy

anyway revus is getting mass nerfed because he’s supposed to be a loser who is only better than dagr in spirit.

wispstalk:

having grown up in mormon country, the Chimer -> Dunmer story set off immediate kill bill sirens in my head and i’m always surprised when people don’t recognize it.

the book of Genesis tells the story of how Noah’s son Ham was cursed or “marked” by god. later on this story was twisted around to provide divine justification for the subjugation and enslavement of Black people. there is no mention of skin color present in the original text but it was a common belief throughout history and played a large part in forming the concept of race as we know it.

Mormonism made this belief a fundamental part of their origin myth: the “Lamanites” were cursed for their sins with dark skin in contrast to the “white and delightsome” Nephites. That is actual Mormon canon. as a relatively newer religion they haven’t had as much time to sweep this part of their theology under the rug.

i’d say it’s fairly easy to go through life without knowing this little piece of trivia. all that said, like… come on. “the dark elves????” if you have even the barest familiarity with the lore and still argue that the depiction can’t be racist because elves aren’t real, your brain tissue is wasted on you.
